What Is A Domain Name?
A domain name is also called a Web Address. A domain name is used as an address for your Web Site and e-mail, just like www.mywebsite.com and orders@mywebsite.com. At Rural Network Services you can register any domain name that is not already taken, or you can transfer to Rural Network Services a domain name you may have already registered elsewhere. Once you register your domain name, you can point that domain name to your Hosting account.
A domain name is made up of two parts. Let's use ruralnetwork.net as an example:
- The first part, ruralnetwork, is a unique name that represents the web site.
- The second part, net, is the extension, and stands for "network." There are many extensions available, though .com, .net, .biz, .info, and .us are the most popular extensions in the United States .
Often, you will see a www. preceding the domain name. This is a common way of naming a web site to indicate that it is part of the "world wide web", but is purely optional.

What Is A Web Site?
A Web Site is a collection of HTML documents or Web pages, that are linked together and that exist on the Web at a particular server. Exploring a Web Site usually begins with the home page, which may lead you to more information about that site.
A Web page is a document created with HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) that is part of a group of hypertext documents or resources available on the World Wide Web. Collectively, these documents and resources form what is known as a Web Site. Web pages can contain hypertext links to other places within the same document, to other documents at the same Web Site, or to documents at other Web Sites. They can also contain fill-in forms, photos, large clickable images, sounds, and videos for downloading.
What is Hypertext? Hypertext is text with links to other text. Documents written as hypertext contain text that when "clicked on" by the user with a mouse, links to other documents.
What Is Web Design?
The aesthetic and navigational architecture of a Web Site.
Web Site design is what most people think of when they talk about web sites - it's how the site looks: the colors, images and text that visitors see.
How Do I Get A Web Site Built?
Rural Network Services can design and maintain your Web Site for you. We can maintain your existing Web Site. We can provide you with assistance if you are working on your own Web Site.
Why Is Web Site Design Important?
Your Web Site is your face to the world on the Internet. It's appearance and functionality will influence how people perceive you and your company.
A well designed web site increases your credibility, makes it easier for potential customers to learn about the products and services you offer, and could be used to sell directly on the Internet.
